"Can fees be paid in instalments?"
Yes. In fact, most parents pay by termly Direct Debit, and gain
a reduction of 3% for doing so. There is also a scheme to pay monthly
over twelve months.

"Are there academic Scholarships and Bursaries?"
Yes. Scholarships are given to those of outstanding ability. The
money for them generally comes from an investment fund, often one
bequeathed to the school many years ago. So although a scholarship
is a very prestigious thing to have, it is not always very valuable,
because it is not means tested. Bursaries, on the other hand, which
come from central school funds, are means-tested ways of supporting
certain pupils. And if you win a scholarship you are automatically
eligible to be means tested for a Bursary in addition.

"How can I find out more information about scholarships
and bursaries?"
There is an information sheet about scholarships available from
the Admissions Office. To order one, email the Admissions Secretary
on admissions@pgs.org.uk.
We are very fortunate to have had a great extension of our Scholarship
and Bursary provision in recent years. In particular we are privileged
to be selected by Peter Ogden as the only school in the south, and
the only co-educational school, to run a pilot scheme for Ogden
Bursaries. In 1999 the computer entrepreneur and philanthropist
Peter Ogden set up The Ogden Trust to finance bursaries for schools.
He chose PGS to be the only school in the south and the only co-educational
school to pilot the scheme. The Ogden Trust now only supports Sixth
Form Science Bursaries for pupils from State Schools. The Portsmouth
Grammar School wishes to preserve and extend its ability to educate
pupils whose financial background would otherwise prevent them from
coming to one of the country's leading co-educational schools. It
believes that open access and social integration is one of the proudest
traditions of the School. It also believes that many individuals
who benefited from or admire this tradition will be willing to give
in order to sustain it.

"How can I pay for my child's lunches?"
Payment for children’s lunches can be made in a variety of
ways:
Cash on the day. This is not the preferred method of the school
because it is time consuming at the till and we would rather children
did not carry cash at school.
School Lunch Account. All pupils have a Lunch Account and when
they purchase meals or refreshments the cost is deducted from their
account by their personal swipe card or scanning their thumb print.
Money can be credited to the account in the following ways:
• Visit the Bursary and make a payment by cash, cheque, debit
or visa card
• Agree to the cost of a full term’s lunches being added
to your termly bill. The cost is based on a pupil having a two course
meal 5 days per week.
• On-line top up. This provides a flexible and convenient
way for parents to manage their child’s account.
