A Level Celebrations
There were smiles all round this year on A Level Results Day –
a new record of 85% A/B grades awarded to 137 candidates; of these,
an impressive 54 pupils have achieved at least three A grades.
‘This is very gratifying,’ said Nick Weaver, Director
of Studies. ‘Especially as so many of our pupils are also
high achievers outside the classroom in Sports and the Arts’.
Andrew Hadfield, who has had an exceptional musical career in school,
achieved five A grades in Chemistry, Mathematics, Music, Physics
and Religious Studies and is going on to study Music at Cambridge.
He was recently commended in a national competition for young composers.
Zachary Smith and Oliver Taylor also achieved five A grades. Others,
such as Hannah Diamond and Simon Faulkner, achieved excellent results
at the same time as representing Great Britain in Sailing and Hockey
respectively.
The Headmaster, James Priory, said ‘We aim to provide a breadth
of knowledge and experience in the Sixth Form and this will be even
more in evidence when we embark on the International Baccalaureate
diploma, alongside A Level, from September 2009’.
Yet again over 90% of pupils have secured places at their first
choice university destinations and there was further good news that
Nader Henry has been awarded the AQA Board Prize in Biology, having
achieved one of the top five scores in the country. He looks forward
to studying Medicine at university next year.
