PGS alumni have fascinating, exciting and diverse careers and we want to harness this experience to help inspire current students. A part of the work of the Development Office is to assist pupils with their career aspirations by identifying Old Portmuthians and current and former parents of the School who would be willing to impart the benefit of their experience in a particular field. A series of 'Working Lunches' held every term gives pupils the opportunity to hear at first hand from practitioners of law, medicine, engineering etc in an informal setting where they can ask questions and really get the 'inside track' on the career they're interested in. Some OPs, parents and former parents assist the School's Sixth Form team in preparing pupils for University selection by agreeing to give them a mock interview.
With competition for university places and graduate jobs so fierce, practical work experience often gives candidates an added edge. If you are able to offer form of workplace training - from one day's work experience upwards - please do get in by emailing us at development@pgs.org.uk . As an Old Portmuthian and new graduate, please do also get in touch; we may just have alumni contacts to enable you to acquire the skills and experience to help you stand out from the crowd.
We also support graduates who are moving to other countries or countries by putting them in touch with PGS alumni who can provide them with local knowledge and help them settle in. If you are happy to lend a hand in this way or would like to benefit from making contact with an Old Portmuthian in a new part of the country or overseas, please email us at development@pgs.org.uk
All PGS leavers, parents and former parents are warmly encouraged to register their career details with us to enable us to create a resource bank for senior school pupils and recent graduates alike. Whether you volunteer to be a mentor, offer work experience or agree to speak at a PGS 'Working Lunch', your contribution to helping pupils in their life beyond the School’s historic arch will be greatly appreciated.
