Summer of Success for GCSE Pupils
Year 11 pupils enjoyed an impressive set of results in their GCSE examinations this summer as, for the third year running, the average grade was above an A.
This year's combined A*/A grade percentage is 74.6%, which is the highest score for five years and attained by the largest year 11 group ever to sit their GCSE exams at PGS. A third of the year group achieved all A* and A grades and 19 pupils earned at least 9 A* grades.
This was also a year of individual success, especially for pupils with demanding, but rewarding, extra-curricular commitments. Sam Moffitt, already a veteran of the National Youth Orchestra, achieved a string of top grades, while Abigail Harris intends to pursue her interest in genetics following a clean sweep of A*s. Abi was joined in her celebrations by 11 other pupils, newly returned from a gruelling four-week expedition to Borneo, where they took part in a Community Project, working with a local school and helping to construct wooden sleeping platforms and painting outbuildings.
Twins Sam and Alex Leonard were also celebrating after receiving the news that they both earned all As and A*s in their GCSEs. Having both been diagnosed with dyslexia earlier in their academic career, they were delighted that hard work and support from their teachers had paid off. Both intended to celebrate at Hayling Island Sailing Club, where they are members. The boys are now looking forward to the challenge of A 'Levels when they join the Sixth Form in September.
Headmaster, Mr James Priory, congratulated pupils on the outstanding results and said, “They deserve to be very proud of all that the Year group has achieved; they are now in an excellent position to build on their strengths in the Sixth Form.”
