HARD HATS A SOFT TOUCH TO ANNUAL EASTER BONNET PARADE

They say if you want to get ahead, get a hat! Well, it’s not ‘hard’ to see this builder knows the score…. he and his workmates constructing the new science centre Asked pupils to decorate their protective helmets and add an extra special touch to the children’s traditional Easter bonnet parade.

More than 150 pupils in Reception and Key Stage 1 lined the High Street as far as the eye could see before they set off in a colourful procession watched by parents, staff, neighbouring residents and bemused people passing by. They were led by Junior School Headmistress Mrs Pippa Foster and Head Mr James Priory, who donned a fetching white hard hat turned into a bunny’s face!

The bonnets – including festive hard hats for 18 builders - came in all manner of shapes, sizes and designs and included a wide range of themes from Spring gardens, top hatsand a bird’s nest.

The winner was a collaborative blossom tree design made by children inthe youngestReception class, mostly all just four years old.

Trevor White, construction manager for Kier, which is building the multi million pound science block, said: ‘It was a pleasure to join the school for their Easter celebrations and the site team enjoyed the opportunity of showing off their modelling skills!’

One worker even came wearing a giant builder’s outfit similar to a well known TV character!

Mrs Foster added: ‘The children had such a wonderful time parading up the High Street and I was amazed at the creativity and diversity of the all the head gear, especially the builders’ hard hats!’

Kier gave everyone a celebratory cream egg and the winning class received a larger egg to share.
