Budding scientists from in and around the city are being invited, by The Portsmouth Grammar School, to apply for a special bursary awarded every seven years to a youngster entering the Senior School.
The Wolfson Bursary is awarded through a generous bequest to an 11+ boy or girl who shows aptitude in science.
The Wolfson Foundation originally provided a substantial cash grant to help PGS build science laboratories on the condition that one pupil would be given a scholarship.
The last recipient in 2001, Oliver Twinam, is sitting his A levels this year and is one of 16 PGS students who have been offered a place at Oxford or Cambridge universities. Appropriately enough, Oliver has a place to read Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge.
Parents should express an interest in the bursary when applying to sit the 11+ entrance assessments which are being held on Saturday 2nd February at The Portsmouth Grammar School.
The award (which is means tested) could be worth up to 100% of fees and, if given, is based upon the results of the PGS assessments and references from candidate's current school. It is just one of a variety of scholarships available.
Please call Mrs Gill Williams, Senior School Admissions, on 023 9236 4269 for further information or to apply.
