PGS FOOTBALLERS' DREAMS COME TRUE
Imagine seeing your fancy footwork projected on giant screens at Premiership Football grounds nationwide!
For eleven PGS boys this is a dream come true! They are the squad who were selected to play with Portsmouth FC goalkeeper, David James, in a film made for Cancer Research. The aim is to alert young men to the fact that there is a 90% success rate in testicular cancer treatment if dealt with early and to encourage them to go for early diagnosis.
The boys dribbled and tackled their way through a cold afternoon but nothing could dampen their glow of excitement at being involved in the event. 'We couldn't get over how approachable David James was,' said Michael Sotnick, a keen goalkeeper himself, 'He was really friendly and signed a lot of stuff for us as well.'
Amongst the items signed were two footballs to go into the school charity auctions to be run by staff. They are to raise money for Modern Languages teacher, Steve Page's sabbatical work with poor children in Argentina next month (items can be bid for on the website) Also for the charity 'Winston's Wish' ,a charity for bereaved children, in memory of PGS maths teacher, Lesley Spofforth, who died of cancer at Christmas (auction to take place in June).
