  The Junior School was alive with the sound of music last week as we celebrated this most valued aspect of our provision. Music is part of our daily diet and all of our pupils are involved in making, performing and appreciating music. To celebrate this we had a packed programme of concerts recitals, performances and workshops so that we could share our love of music across the year groups. The Spring Term was a musical feast as pupils throughout the school were involved with a range of wonderful performances.   Workshops, masterclasses, musicals and competition were all on the menu over the term as we welcomed musicians to the school, including Remi Harris who gave an excellent gypsy guitar masterclass and London Mozart Players who met pupils in both the Junior School and Senior School before a beautiful evening performance in the Cathedral.   The hotly contested House Music Competition, held at St Thomas’ Cathedral, was a highlight of the term in the Senior School.  An incredible array of…

Sailors and Pirates Ahoy!

Sailors and pirates roamed The Portsmouth Grammar School as the fun and extremely popular Junior School String Musical Day took over the school. Now in its third year, pupils from The Portsmouth Grammar Junior School were joined by pupils from Fernhurst Junior School, Wimborne Junior School, Craneswater Junior School and Mayville School for a celebration of string playing.  “Each year we have a different theme,” said Jane Ingamells, Head of Strings at The Portsmouth Grammar School.  “The children are encouraged to dress-up, with a prize for the best costume.  It is a great day and the children love the experience…

Rock for Uganda

Isolated Islands play at the PUG Gig

The Pupils’ Uganda Group – affectionately known as PUG – filled the DRT  with music earlier this term to raise funds for our partners in learning, Kikaaya College School in Uganda. The school has been partnered with KCS since for several years with pupils and staff visiting the school over recent years helping with a variety of infrastructure projects, as well as taking part in and teaching classes. Preparation is already well underway for the next trip out to Uganda this summer. Britain’s Got Talent

Taking part in something slightly different this half term has been Year 11 pupil Isaac Waddington who reached the Britain’s Got Talent final this weekend. His excellent semi-final performance of I Can’t Make You Love Me, which has been recorded by George Michael and Adele in the past, secured his place in the final.  On Sunday evening Isaac reprised Billy Joel’s She’s Always a Woman from his first audition and once more brought all four judges to their feet, receiving glowing reviews from them all. “We are absolutely delighted by his achievement,” said James Priory, Headmaster.  “Isaac delivered an excellent musical performance…
