Year 2 spent two action packed days being introduced to ‘The Great Fire of London’. They were visited by Rainbow Theatre Company who helped the children to put on a dramatic re-enactment of the historical event.

The next day, the children took part in various activities linked to the Stuart era. They embroidered cotton handkerchiefs with their initials, practised the art of Calligraphy, played old fashioned games, created a historical timeline and made their own wax candles. They also made scent bottles, using essential oils from herbs, to recreate the smells used in the masks, which were intended to protect people from the plague. Oliver in 2G said ‘I added tea tree, frankincense and sweet orange to my scent bottle. I liked the smell because it reminded me of sweets’.
