The Portsmouth Grammar School this year have celebrated excellent examination results in the International Baccalaureate (IB), A Level and at GCSE.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) pupils achieved an average points score of more than 38 points compared with a worldwide average of 29 points in 2018. Over two-thirds of pupils achieved scores of over 40 points, equivalent at least to A*AA at A Level. At A Level, over 54% of the grades awarded were A*-A and 79% A*-B.
At GCSE the average grade of a PGS pupil in 2018 was once more an A. 40% of the grades achieved were A*/8-9; 67% A*-A/7-9; 88% A*-B/5-9 with 99% gaining A*-C/4-9.
PGS pupils continue to gain places at the top universities. Fourteen pupils this year have gone on to study Medicine or Veterinary Science at universities from Newcastle to Surrey and UCL. A further thirteen are going on to read Engineering and Architecture, with other pupils going to read a range of subjects including Economics, Classics, Law and Languages. Pupils have headed to Russell Group universities, Oxbridge Colleges and even to the University of Southern California.
