As we aren’t able to invite large numbers of visitors in to the school currently we invite you to enjoy a virtual open experience.
You can hear from our Head and Head of Junior School, pupils and other members of staff as well as enjoying a look around the school through short films and zooming around 360˚ images. We are also able to arrange for you
to meet key members of staff that you would like to talk to via Microsoft Teams at a time that works for you. Please do get in touch with us to find out how to take part.
Increasingly we are receiving applications to The Portsmouth Grammar School from overseas. Currently we hold a Tier 4 license to be able to accept international pupils in to our Sixth Form (16 – 18 years old), as we are not a boarding school pupils are offered places on a homestay basis and we can put applicants in touch with agencies who are able to arrange accommodation with families during their time with us at the school. Applicants would need to obtain a Tier 4 visa to study here.
With pupils having experienced a wide range of different educational provision, we do require individual international applicants to undergo the UKiset online tests. UKiset is an adaptive online test taken in English that has been designed to support admission into the UK independent education system. UKiset tests a child’s underlying academic abilities through three principle reasoning areas – Verbal, Non-Verbal and Numerical Ability – together with a creative writing piece and an English Placement Test. In total, the test takes approximately two and a half hours.
These tests can be organised in the applicant’s own country, details of the tests can be found on the UKiset website, please click here.
Parents should inform the Admissions team that they would like their child to be considered for entry to The Portsmouth Grammar School before registering for the UKiset tests. After your child has taken the test and we have received their UKiset Profile Package we will contact you to discuss whether we are able to take your child’s application further. Please do note that success in the UKiset test will not automatically lead to the offer of a place at The Portsmouth Grammar School – it is an indication to us on whether to proceed with the application process.
We will also arrange an interview with the applicant, normally via Skype, as part of the entry process and request a reference from the current school or college before then deciding on the offer of a place.
