German, French, Spanish, Icelandic, Mandarin, Arabic, Polish, Romanian, Singhalese, Malayalam…. the whole school was buzzing with different dialects as pupils explored the many languages spoken in the school community to celebrate the International Day of Languages this week.

Mr Stone, the Senior School Head of Languages, took the Junior School Assembly along with some of our Sixth Form linguists, explaining the importance and benefits of studying another language and the dangers of relying on Google Translate, which the pupils definitely found amusing! Senior School and Sixth Form pupils then visited Junior School classes to share their language expertise.

One of the high points of the day was seeing how engaged the Year 5 pupils were when Joe in Year 9 visited to teach them some of his mother tongue, Albanian (pictured above). Joe was one of our youngest bilingual teachers during the day and was outstanding!

And, of course, you could not celebrate a language without enjoying the food. Thank you to our amazing catering team who created a special international lunch menu which was certainly enjoyed by everyone!
