Nurturing and developing

Nurturing and developing a lifelong love of learning is at the heart of our Early Years provision and our children benefit greatly from a caring and supportive approach to their personal development. It is so important that our children feel happy, that their contribution is valued from day one and that they learn to value the contribution of others. 

Our Pre-School offers a stimulating and nurturing environment for our youngest children, achieving its aim of preparing children for entry into Reception year at PGS. The children play, learn and grow together under the guidance and care of well qualified and professional Early Years Assistants in a purpose built environment. The Head of Pre-School is a qualified teacher with many years of experience of leading Early Years settings.

A seamless transition

A seamless transition for Pre-School to Reception year ensures that from their first day of school our children are learning the academic skills of reading, writing and maths alongside the personal skills of sharing, respect and independence. They do this in a happy, coeducational environment in bright, spacious classrooms supported by the very best in teaching and technological resources. The Form Teacher becomes each child’s key person, responsible for their academic and personal learning journey, and the link between school and home. The happiness and well-being of our pupils is paramount and essential for success and, ably supported by our Teaching Assistants, the Form Teacher is responsible for ensuring that every child is settled, secure and happy.

The curriculum in Pre-School and Reception is structured around the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and centres on the development of the child in relation to key areas of learning and early learning goals; it is enriched with lessons in French, music, PE and cookery and from a themed approach to learning as part of our Connected Curriculum.

The foundations provided in Reception ensure not only a smooth transition into Year 1, but that every child has developed a love of learning that will ensure future success and happiness as they continue their learning journey through Junior School, Senior School and beyond.
