PGS Sponsors Local Innovation Awards for the Education Sector

The Portsmouth Grammar School attended the inaugural Portsmouth Innovation Awards this week to celebrate ground-breaking businesses and ‘digital disruptors’ in and around the city.

The event was organised by The News and JPIMedia and saw more than 120 guests in attendance to celebrate Portsmouth’s latest and most remarkable innovative businesses. It was the first time the event has been held as the original awards evening was postponed due to coronavirus lockdowns.

Editor of The News, Mark Waldron, thanked PGS for sponsoring the award and was full of praise for each entry received. He said: “This exciting new event has been designed to showcase what’s already being achieved in the city and to create a buzz around our digital, innovation and creative sectors to encourage more innovators into the Portsmouth area. We felt it was time to shout about their immense contribution with an event to honour the pioneers from Portsmouth and surrounding areas.”

There were speeches delivered by inspiring local business people and innovators such as Young Entrepreneur of the Year award winner Josh Robinson from events business LMSUKMedia and Nick Young, engineer and Innovation Director at BAE Systems.

The awards were broken into 10 categories covering health, manufacturing, community and education, each with their own sponsor. PGS sponsored the Education category, with the award going to Education Innovation UK CIC.

Education Innovation UK was set up to ensure children in Portsmouth get access to life enriching experiences that they may not otherwise enjoy. The hope is that these experiences will raise their future aspirations. One of the most recent projects for Education Innovation UK is the STEAM bus – a unique and flexible resource for schools within Portsmouth  designed to allow students (aged 4-18 years) a tailored and personalised learning experience to maximise progress for all involved.

Deputy Head of Innovation at PGS, Luke Rees was delighted to be able to award Education Innovation UK with their well-earned award. He said: “At PGS we strive to inspire in our young people a drive to be innovative and a thirst to discover the undiscovered; the Innovation Awards capture that message wholeheartedly. We are proud to sponsor the education category and would like to again congratulate the winner of the education category: Education Innovation, a phenomenal and worthy winner.”
