It wasn’t a completely ‘feet-up’ summer for one pupil this year, when for two weeks in August Alexander Harding (Year 13 ) worked with Ben Ainslie Racing in Whiteley.
“I had spoken in favour of the BAR planning proposals at the Cathedral earlier this year,” said Alexander. “I was then asked by local residents to speak in support at the planning committee hearing, this got me interested in the science and technology behind the America’s Cup so I took the opportunity to ask for work experience.”
During the two weeks Alexander worked with the Communications Team and the Team Base Project Director picking up a range of jobs. It wasn’t all hard work though as he did spend an afternoon on the Hamble when he had the chance to sail the Nacra 20 which the Sailing Team use for training. “It was an absolute blast,” commented Alexander, “and of course the fastest sail I’ve ever had.”
A full write up on Alexander’s time with BAR will be in the next edition of Horizons.
