Our newly elected Pupil Council met for the first time earlier this week and following the obligatory publicity shot it was down to Council business as Mr Hopkinson and Mr Ashcroft outlined the Councillors’ roles and responsibilities.
There is a Councillor for each of the Junior Forms and their job is to collate ideas from their Form mates on how we might improve the School. A half termly meeting ensures a consistent flow of ideas and since it first met three years ago the Council has had a real influence on school improvement. It has contributed to the back playground redevelopment, refurbishment of toilets on both sites, better water fountains, playground equipment, new clubs and activities and new arrangements for seating in the dining hall, to name but a few examples.
The first meeting showed that this year’s crop of Councillors had given serious though to their responsibilities and have already tabled some interesting proposals.
