Tuesday, 12th May was International Day of the Nurse (following International Day of the Midwife on 5th May), as well as Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday. We were delighted with the response to our appeal to pupils, parents and staff to mark this significant day, celebrating the extraordinary work done by nurses across the world and within our own communities.

On the school’s blog, Portsmouth Point, we published: interviews by pupils and staff with relatives who are members of the nursing profession; posters, films and articles by pupils thanking nurses for their courage, commitment and care; reflections from PGS parents on their own experiences as nurses, midwives and doctors; research by the school’s Archivist on Portsmouth’s own Victorian nursing hero, Annie Fox; and poems commemorating the life and work of Florence Nightingale.
