Last Friday and Saturday, PGS pupil rock bands performed at the Ovation Rock Show at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester. Ovation Music is a Chichester-based charity providing music sessions and live performance opportunities to children and young people, encouraging creativity, teamwork and a positive outlook. Two PGS bands performed, one from Year 7 and one from Year 11. The pupil articles on the experience are below.
“On Saturday 11th January, Riot, the Year 7 Rock Band performed at the Ovation Rock Show. The band is made up of Ollie Bridle and Eleanor Mead on vocals, Eddie Atkins on bass guitar, Anthony Harvey on drums and Ben Robinson on lead guitar. This was only the second time that we had performed together in public. We played You Really Got Me by The Kinks. Considering the lack of rehearsal time, it went brilliantly! We were all quite nervous but enjoyed the opportunity to play in front of such a large audience and to watch the other performers taking part. We are now looking forward to our next performance at the Year 7 Disco!”

“Last Friday the Year 11 band, The Lunch Club – including Lewis Bevan, Dan Smith, James Johnson, Ollie Youngman, Hamish McGuire and myself – performed as a guest band at the Ovation Rock Show in Chichester’s Minerva Theatre. We really enjoyed this because it was our biggest audience yet, closely followed by our performance at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth. We played Lonely Boy by The Black Keys, it went very well. I also thought it was really beneficial watching other people perform because we could learn about their different styles, and we were able to meet lots of new people.”
