Sixth Form Curriculum
The Sixth Form curriculum at Portsmouth Grammar School.
Our Sixth Form A-Level curriculum offers all pupils the opportunity to undertake an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), which may be essay-based, creative or practical. They will have access to a wide range of taught academic enrichment courses, to extend their learning beyond their core subjects, through our Ignite! programme. Students may choose from a broad range of community partnership projects and work experience, receiving skills coaching and opportunities for leadership development.
The Pastoral Curriculum in the Sixth Form supports pupils as they move towards the world beyond PGS. Providing Sixth Form students with support and guidance in:
- Applying to universities
- Other higher education pathways
- Their chosen career
The Portsmouth Grammar School is committed to the development of the individual and to nurturing the core skills and qualities that will enable our pupils to flourish.
Our academic enrichment programme at PGS is designed to allow pupils to excel in higher education, becoming:
- Deep thinkers
- Critical enquirers
- Intellectual risk-takers
The programme assists in securing places at the most competitive universities in the UK or abroad. We provide a dynamic and future-proof approach to academic enrichment that will give pupils the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to become innovators and leaders of the next generation.
Alongside this the Personal Enrichment Curriculum (link to page) helps to form the pupil’s personal development through exciting, rewarding and hugely enjoyable opportunities.
PGS Sixth Form provides an environment where Sixth Formers feel supported and empowered to reach their fullest potential. We pride ourselves on the exceedingly high level of individualised pastoral and academic support available in the Sixth Form from our inspiring and dedicated staff.
