The annual fee for pupils at The Portsmouth Grammar School is split across three terms in an academic year for ease of administration.
Fees 2025/26
Please find the tuition fee breakdown for the upcoming academic year below. We also provide an extensive programme of scholarships and means-tested financial assistance in the Senior School.
There is a non-refundable registration fee of £100 (Pre-School) and £120 (all other years) per child. We offer places based on the results of an assessment, entrance examination and GCSE results, as applicable. Upon acceptance of a place, we ask for a £500 deposit to be paid and that you digitally sign our Terms of Admission, submitted via OpenApply; this deposit is refunded to you at the end of the first term.

When using the 15 hours EEF only, parents may choose from the following options:
- 5 x am or pm sessions (1 per day)
- 3 x am sessions with the 1 hour lunch session and 1 x am or pm session (hot lunches charged additionally)
If parents pay for any additional hours over the 15 hours of funding, they will be entitled to book from the full range of available sessions.
(Extra Sessions, if available, are charged at £11.75ph or part hour)

Termly Direct Debit The majority of parents take advantage of the Direct Debit Scheme.
Monthly Payment As an alternative to paying your school fees termly, you can opt to pay school fees via monthly repayments through School Fee Plan*.

From September 2025 we will be using a new, convenient payment system that will enable parents to pay directly not only for lunches, but also for uniforms, school trips and any other additional items.
Scholarships & Financial Assistance
We provide a programme of scholarships and means-tested financial assistance in the Senior School. PGS is extremely grateful to our alumni, friends and the school community, whose generosity to The William Smith Fund makes it possible for pupils to join PGS each year who may require financial support.
A range of scholarships are available to recognize exceptional academic achievement, as well as talent in co-curricular pursuits, including Art, Drama, Music and Sport.

The Portsmouth Grammar School seeks to offer means-tested financial assistance to talented pupils who would not otherwise be able to attend the school.
Financial support is awarded at the following points of entry:

- Sixth Form
In some circumstances we may award financial assistance to exceptional candidates at 13+.
