Junior School sailing

The junior sailing team did brilliantly at the recent IAPS Sailing Championships, held at Weymouth Marina, where four talented U11 sailors proudly represented the school and achieved an outstanding third place overall as a team.

Millie B, Sophia Hi, Harry W and Harry G were very excited to compete against some of the strongest young sailors in their age group from across the country, including Millfield School and Ryde School. Conditions on the water were blustery, with shifting winds and competitive racing, but the team showed excellent teamwork, resilience and skill throughout the event.

Each sailor contributed across the races, demonstrating not only their growing confidence on the water but also fantastic sportsmanship towards one another despite the change in wind speed from 20 knots at the start of the event to 32 knots. The decision to reef the sails - despite reduced power - turned out well as the wind became stronger. In these pressured conditions, their ability to stay focused and work together secured an impressive third place finish overall — a tremendous achievement at such a high-level competition.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their sailing experience, meet other young sailors and represent the school with pride. "Our two boats were unbelievable," said Mr Stone. "It was a victory of tactics and raw endurance. Their sailing was truly extraordinary, and they survived the conditions that put off much of the rest of the fleet."

A huge congratulations goes to Millie, Sophia, Harry and Harry for their excellent performance and positive attitude throughout the competition. They should all be extremely proud of what they achieved at Weymouth Marina. We look forward to seeing what future successes await this talented young team both on and off the water.
