Junior School Academic

This week, pupils across the school explored the theme of Curiosity for British Science Week. We asked lots of questions and connected them to our themes for the term.

The Infant children embraced the topic by exploring their own curious questions. In Reception, they investigated the question “What happens when we pick flowers? and thought about how we can care for living things in our environment. Year 1 pupils explored “Why should we not pollute the oceans?” which encouraged them to think about the tiny creatures and details we might not usually notice. Year 2 children investigated “How can we change the shape of a material?” by experimenting with different materials to see how they can bend, squash and stretch.

In Key Stage 2, Year 3 children investigated reflections through a variety of fun experiments. Year 4 pupils explored how sound travels by making and testing string telephones. Year 5 investigated irreversible reactions by making casein plastic from milk. Year 6 thought about life beyond Earth and modelled how living things might have evolved to survive on other planets.

After celebrating British Science Week in assembly, the Infant children were also keen to discover the answer to an exciting question: how can we make a raisin dance? They shared their own ideas and predictions before enjoying watching the experiment take place during playtime. Throughout the school, everyone took part in practical experiments, creative tasks and asked lots of curious questions. British Science Week gave us all a great chance to explore, experiment and see how much fun science can be.
