Summer Sport Gets Going

PGS Sport was back with bang last week after the Easter break!
Our athletes competed last Saturday in a ten Schools Meet at Dauntsey's School, where we came second overall. This was a fantastic team effort, led admirably by athletics captains Milly L and Rufus GB, alongside several individual strong performances and personal bests. In fact, three of our athletes (Fola O, Rosie L, and Lottie P) have already achieved the entry standard for the national finals, which puts them in a strong position to be selected later this term.
A reminder that athletics training for all year groups takes place after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Mountbatten Track.
Our PGS cricket teams are also well underway with their fixtures and training. The U14 and U15 boys enjoyed a fantastic two day trip to Oxford during the Easter holiday, playing matches against St Edward's School and Magdalen College respectively. The Boys 1stXI have also started the season well with three wins out of three already.
All of the girls and boys cricket teams enjoyed a full block of matches with Ryde School last Saturday, where it was lovely to see a mass of cricket matches going ahead in the glorious sunshine at Hilsea. Congratulations to the U15/14 Girls in particular who put in a strong performance on the 1stXI pitch, and all of the other teams for some excellent batting, bowling and fielding skills on display.
Earlier this week saw our U13 girls and boys teams also win their first round county cup matches against Perins School and Salesian's respectively.
Players should make sure that they are committing each week to their respective training sessions so we can keep up their progress and momentum.
Our U15 tennis teams played their first match of the season yesterday against Perins School. Pupils who are keen tennis players and currently or previously have played club tennis are encouraged to make themselves known to Mr Hawkswell.
A reminder that tennis training takes place after school on Wednesdays for all year groups at Hilsea, and on Friday mornings in the Tennis Dome (Portsmouth Tennis Academy) 7:30-8:15am.
Saturday 3 May sees our Year 8-10 athletes travel to Epsom College for an athletics meet, and our cricket teams playing a block of fixtures with Churcher's College. Good luck to all of our pupils involved in these sports.
