Congratulations to Tasha D, Year 11 who has had national trials all year for a final GB U16 women’s ice hockey team selection playing last weekend in a challenge tournament against the Netherlands which was held in Hull. Team GB won all their matches. Tasha been playing ice hockey for 8 years. In 2023 & 2024 she represented the England U15 girls ice hockey team in Slovakia and Lithuania.

Athletics

On Tuesday both of our U14 track teams progressed to the semi final of the Hampshire Track KO. The next day, our Inter boys and girls teams took part in the English Schools Track and Field Cup competition, where they finished 1st and 2nd respectively, beating some strong schools including Ryde School, Churcher's College and Farnborough Hill, amongst others.

Last weekend saw the Hampshire Athletics Championships take place, where over 400 athletes were competing over the full range of athletics disciplines. The Portsmouth Grammar School are the only school who enters their non-club athletes into the competition, ensuring our pupils get the most challenging opportunities. We also have a number of athletes who have gone on to join a club to help them progress further. It was great to see so many PGS pupils enjoying the competition and letting their hard work in training shine through. The notable results from the weekend were:

Fola O. - 2nd in 100m

Rosie L. - 1st in hurdles and 2nd in High Jump

Mesoma N. - 3rd in 200m

Will C. - 3rd in Steeplechase

Lotti P. - 1st in Javelin and 1st in Shot

Daniel K. - 1st in Triple Jump

Hattie M. - 1st in Discus

Arabella dC. - 3rd in High jump

A number of these athletes have now achieved the English Schools entry standard and will hope to be selected for the most prestigious event of the year, the English Schools Championships.

Tennis

Our U13 and U15 tennis teams enjoyed another fixture this week with Thornden School. Well done to all pupils involved.

Cricket

Our cricketers have enjoyed matches this week with Mayville School (U12B), Perin's School (U15A and U14B), and a County Cup match vs KES Southampton (U12A) which our boys won in brilliant fashion, thanks in part to Eshan A scoring 60.

This weekend sees another busy Saturday of sport, with our athletes travelling to competitions at Epsom College and Lord Wandsworth College respectively, and our cricketers enjoying matches with Lancing College, Winchester College and Portsmouth High School.

Next Monday, 19 May, sees some of our Year 8-10 pupils and parents invited to an athletic screening presentation evening with our team of physios from South Coast Rx Physiotherapy. This promises to be another informative evening for all who benefitted from the testing last term.
